60 Minutes has certified the issue of impact of salmon farms on wild salmon. They took BC salmon farming practices into the homes of North Americans who are eating farmed salmon and thus paying this industry to continue. They made some interesting points – the most disturbing is in the final interview, which is with Brian Wallace – senior lawyer for the Cohen Commission. Normally a very self-assured, well spoken man, Wallace stutters through the question from Sanjay Gupta refering to my work: "
"She makes a claim that ISA virus has been found in the waters and the fish of British Columbia. Is that true?"
He seems unable to find an answer. When Gupta asks if it is too late, Wallace says, "I hope not."
"Hope" is not enough given what these salmon mean to us and do for us.

One response to “60 Minutes Airs Show on BC Salmon Farming”
I am not neutral in this matter.
That said, I thought that both sides in this debate got a fair interview (though some of the fish farm advocates are currently tearing their hair out).
But. The hesitating and vacillating responses by the lawyer left one shaking one’s head. Twenty six million dollars, expert witnesses, conflicting testimony and no regulatory response arising from the Cohen Commission.
Neither side won. Neither side lost. But the public interest in it’s widest sense in BC was the real loser.
